Additional Measurements of Leading-Edge Slat Noise Including the Effects of Noise Reduction Devices (042616)
Project Status: Archived
Investigator
Description
The scope of this task order involves expanding the previously obtained aeroacoustic database
for the 30P30N high-lift configuration to include:
1. Assessment of an improved implementation of a solid slat gap filler that overcomes the
adverse side effect of the implementation used during the previous measurements (Ref.
5), by fully closing or sealing the gap under installed and wind-on conditions.
2. Evaluate the effectiveness of a porous gap filler.
3. Acquire time accurate measurements of unsteady flow via Particle Image Velocimetry
(PIV) applied to the slat cove region, and, if possible, one or more out of the main wing
cove, flap suction surface, and top of the main wing leading edge (where the gap filler will
attach to the main wing).
Tasks 1 and 2 above will include at a minimum, steady and unsteady surface pressure
measurements at selected locations over the model surface, along with the PIV data, and phased
microphone array measurements for the 30P30N model mounted in a Kevlar wall configuration.
We will deliver the processed data as well as selected parts of the raw data along with a test
report that documents the measurements and the associated errors/uncertainties.
