I am Julian Long, a Postdoctoral Fellow at the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering with a Ph.D. in Materials Science from the University of Florida. My research focuses on advanced surface finishing techniques for ceramic optics, particularly the impact of magnetic field-assisted polishing processes on defect mitigation and contamination control for high-power laser applications. With over five years of graduate research experience, I bring expertise in metrology, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and technical writing. I am passionate about materials innovation at the intersection of precision engineering and optical performance, and I continue to explore surface science solutions that support next-generation photonic systems.
