Biography

I am Carlos Sanchez-Sarmiento, a Mechanical Design Engineer at Amentum supporting NASA Kennedy Space Center, and a researcher with over three years of experience in robotics hardware and controls. I have contributed to diverse robotics projects including designing adaptable robot toes for a climbing quadruped and developing an assistive robotic unicycle. During my NASA JPL internship, I worked on robotic inspection quadrupeds and optimized structural components for space applications. I have expertise in CAD design (ProE CREO, Autodesk Fusion, AutoCAD), dynamic simulations using MATLAB with PID control, finite element analysis, and prototyping with custom-machined and 3D printed parts. I have led teams of undergraduate researchers, managed project workflows, and communicated with machine shops for fabrication. I am passionate about advancing engineering solutions through innovation, hands-on design, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
